pul·let

noun

  1. a young hen, especially one less than one year old.

The Happy Farmer raises a few broods of chicks each year to 8 weeks old. They are typically a variety of heirloom breeds — we like to mix it up so they are different each time.

Why 8 weeks? At 8 weeks, chicks are fully feathered out and don’t need supplemental heat and they can be safely integrated into an existing flock. We will hold onto them longer if you want them to be a bit older.

ALSO, here in Kentucky, by law you have to purchase a minimum of 6 chicks if they are younger than 8 weeks old. We raise them to 8 weeks so you can add fewer than 6 pullets to your flock.
